The next step the cabinet maker takes is to start building some drawers. I measured the inside of the face frame or often considered the skeleton of the custom cabinets. The manufacture’s suggestion for the right type of slides I use is to subtract three eighths of an inch from the inside and that becomes the drawer wedge. I’m using hard maple for these custom cabinets. This is a popular selection among other cabinet makers I know. I’ve already planed down to five-eighths thickness and ran a straight edge on it on the joiner ripped it up and then I chop it up to the sizes for the custom cabinets. What my cabinet maker is over here doing is he’s running this groove in the bottom of the drawer sides to accept the bottom of the drawer. To go ahead with that the cabinet maker is using the saw from the dado head cutter which is a specialty tool that all real cabinet makers should have. So the cabinet maker will run it through and have the groove in all four sides. The next step will be to bring it over to the drum sander and run the boards through it s few times to get it nice and slick for the final finish of the custom cabinets. Now that I am finishing up with the preparation of the assembly I can go ahead and start to assemble the custom cabinets with my cabinet maker to assist me with completing the steps.
