Today, what is taking place with the cabinet maker is he is conforming some custom cabinets. I am going to elaborate on how you do that by starting things off with the boxes first. This is the easiest way to build custom cabinets and it has a lot of advantages to it. So I am going to explain to you exactly how it’s done. Right here in front of me I have ¾ inch plywood. The reason why I am using ¾ and not ½ is because I’m just going to have a flush face on it and on that flush face I am going to attach my stiles and my rails. I pre-cut all of the pieces for these small custom cabinets. This is just some samples of custom cabinets to give you an idea of how it’s done. This is 12 inches high and 11 inches and a quarter inches wide. These are the two sides. You have two pieces this size. The top and bottom is going to insert between the side so you are going to subtract an inch and a half off of the width. This would be 24 inches total and if you take ¾ of an inch on one side and ¾ here you’ll come up to an inch and a half. So you add that inch and a half to 22 and a half and you’ll have 24. As far as a depth goes you’re going to go ten and a half inches to build these custom cabinets deep oppose to narrow which is crucial in the way we are putting these custom cabinets together. When they have been connected to the wall you use spacers to cover up the gap between the cabinet and the wall. Then to top it off you use quarter round to give the custom wood its final finish.
